Salvado Catholic College

School News – 24/25 August 2019

We had Mass with Fr Mark for the first time at Salvado Catholic College to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption last week. The students and staff also enjoyed having Fr Mark visit all the Learning Spaces too. Last Friday we farewelled Fr Anthony and wished
him well as he moves to a new Parish. We all let him know how much we would miss him and thanked him for being with us in the Parish and at Salvado Catholic College. There was lots of stomping and roaring in the Covered Assembly Space on Wednesday as we had our Dino-Mite Book Fair and Open Night. It was another fantastic evening and it was great to see so many students and their families at the College. The students are all in training, preparing for the Athletics Carnival later in the term. The Year 5 students are preparing for their Retreat to New Norcia as well!

We are taking enrolments for Kindergarten and Year 7 in 2021. We are also taking enrolments for Pre-Kindergarten in 2019 and 2020. Contact us via email – or phone 9526 4500 if you are interested in an enrolment pack for your child. Join us on our next College tour on Tuesday 3 September at either 10:00am or 4:00pm. Peace & Happy Days!

We have a great start to Term Three at St John Bosco College. Please visit our calendar to view the various events that will take place this term. Bosco students enjoyed their first visit from Father Mark and we are all looking forward to our Year 4 Sacrament of The Eucharist this weekend. Year 4 students also participated in a retreat last Friday in preparation for the Sacrament. Our NAIDOC Celebration
and cultural activities were again a great success. Four of our Year 6 Arts Captains recently had an opportunity to represent the College at the Catholic Preforming Arts Opening Mass held at St Mary’s Cathedral. Later in the term, our Bosco Choirs will participate in our first Catholic Performing Arts Festival. Bosco Athletes from Year 3 to Year 6 competed in our third Interschool Cross Country with Salvado Catholic College, Hammond Park CPS and Mother Teresa Catholic College at Manning Park on Monday. Our Science Learning Centre is almost ready for use, where students will have an opportunity to experience the joy of Science. The learning centre consists of six Science labs, a project lab, two aquariums, two external living laboratories and an amphitheatre with a sacred space.

Xavier Catholic School

School News 3/4 August 2019

Next week our Year 3 and Year 5 students will be completing the Bishop’s Religious Literacy Assessment (BRLA) on-line. The
assessment focuses on students’ ability to recall content about the Catholic faith and their knowledge and understanding of Religious Education. It is not designed to measure a student’s faith. We pray that our students will be able to do their very best in
this assessment. A large number of our students from Year 4 and some higher grades will be receiving their First Holy Communion next Saturday night, 10 August at the 6.30pm Mass. Please keep these students in your prayers as we welcoming them to the table of the Lord for the first time in our community. The students of Xavier Catholic School will be performing in five
sections of the Performing Arts Festival this year. Three of the Year 6 Arts Councillors joined me and Mrs Konle at the Opening Mass of the festival last week in St Mary’s Cathedral. Three Discipleship councillors: Romel De Guzman, Sigourney Slee and Cassandra Slattery, performed very well in the Bible Reading Section last Friday and our Junior Dance Troupe are participating
in the Liturgical Movement Section of the festival on Tuesday. Our Year 2B class are reciting a class poem in the Choral Speech section on Wednesday. There are more performances later in the term and we are delighted to support The Arts in our school. This week, as part of their Christian service learning, some of our Year 6 students visited Opal Aged Care to keep the residents company. Our Mums and Bubs’ Playground provides a space for families to make new friends, learn some skills and have fun with the children. Families meet every Tuesday during the school term from 9am to 11am in one of our Kindergarten rooms. Everyone
is most welcome including fathers and grandparents! This Sunday we acknowledge and celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day.

Xavier Catholic School supports Catholic Education WA “Transforming Lives: 2025 Strategy” to improve our Aboriginal education cultural competencies within our classrooms whilst continuing to increase support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in our Catholic School. If you have a child who turns 4 years of age between the 1 July 2019 and the 30 June 2020 they are eligible to attend 4-year-old Kindergarten next year. Please ring the school office on 9391 7000 or come in and collect an enrolment package immediately as interviews will be conducted soon.

God bless,
Cathie Bauer,
